GOLF PROPOSAL SHELVED
Author: Franci Richardson Ellement
Section: Globe South
The chairman of the Board of Assessors withdrew
his proposal that asked the town to consider taking land by eminent domain
from a company and turning it into a golf course. Town counsel had advised
chairman Robert Powilatis to redraft his petition,
and it was withdrawn from consideration at the May 29 Town Meeting. Powilatis had submitted a petition to pay $1.9 million
for 78.6 acres of land owned by the Mullins Co. of Holbrook, which is in the
process of developing that land into condos and commercial space.
